My Morning Green (more red then green today)
Well Hello all you little skittles! Did everyone have a good weekend? What did you do? We had a fabaloosa weekend.
Saturday was just kind of a catch up day for us. We ran all of errands, (groceries) got some lunch, stopped for a coffee and I tell you, this was the WORST Starbucks I have ever been too. I am really hoping to get one their surveys so I can let them know the terrible service we had. But after that, we finally got home around 2, ate a little of the lunch we had picked up, read a little bit and then went out and picked up a few more things we needed. All of the sudden it was 6 and time to get some dinner. I was exhausted by the end of the day.
Sunday was really nice. We met OD for the Hubs birthday lunch at Bangkok Station. This is a REALLY great place. The food is authentic Thai food, the service is excellent, the restaurant itself if very bright and cheery. This was nice. We shared several dishes. We started with
- Crying Tiger
Popular grilled beef served with Jaew sauce (Northeastern Thai tamarind BBQ sauce) and
- Tom Yum Koong Soup
Shrimp, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf, lime juice, thai chili, mushroom. These two were fantastic. Then we went on to share
- Whole Red Snapper
Lightly battered fried Brazilian red snapper with our special three flavor sauce and sautéed spinach and mushroom, which was fantastic and
- Green Curry Shrimp
- Traditional fresh green chili curry, Thai coconut milk, bell pepper, egg plant, bamboo shoot, peas, and fresh Thai basil leaves, that I neglected to take a picture of. This was all fantastic.
This is a definite do again place.
I started today off completely different. Well, not completely different, but I chose to jog rather then lift this morning. I had pretty much made my mind up over the weekend, I wanted to seriously, and I do mean seriously this time, slowly start to jog and then run. I want to go about it the right way this time, and a little at a time.
Last night, I was reading in RW magazine, where they have this 39 day challenge. Starting Memorial Day, they are challenging anyone who wants to, to run at least 1 mile a day. The article said it did not matter how fast or how slow you went, but do at least one mile a day. Then, go home and mark that day off on your calendar. Do this for 39 days.
I thought this is a good place to start. Even though I slept like serious crap last night, pretty much, I might have slept on hour. No clue why, but I still wanted to start this today. G and I actually got a pretty good 2 mile jalk in, then I took him home, (he is getting a little older and a little slower and I don’t want to push him too hard) and I went back out. I did another 1.37 miles at an average pace of 14:37. I know, rocket like speed, but I figure if I can add just a little distance every day, and knock a second or two off the time, that is all I am asking for too start.
The bad part of all of this is that I can do this for 3 days, and then probably nothing for 4 days. This is the week we are going to SD, and Thursday and Sunday are early flight days, so no runs there, and Friday and Saturday I may get a walk in, but there are a lot of people to see, in a very short amount of time. So, my point is no running those days. But once we get back, next Monday again, I can get back to it for some time. I will keep you updated on how this is going! Care to join me?
The other thing I did this morning, I actually started this on Sunday, is I am going to start my day with a green smoothie. (I think I talked about this on Friday) I talked with the hubs over the weekend, and I am just really tired of having to take all of these things for my gut, to get all of the vitamins and minerals I need, I just want to eat real food. He said the same thing I thought, in order for me to get these all through food, I just can’t eat that much. But, to make a smoothie in the morning, I can get a lot of vegetables and fruit into the smoothie. He even offered to get me a heavy duty blender that will process all of this. I do not want to do that yet. And this is exactly how I told him. Sometimes things sound all good and yes, let’s do that, but then, and I will speak for me, I loose interest and quit.
So, I am going to do this every morning until we go to SD, (again, obviously, I can’t do this while traveling and for some reason, I just don’t think I am going to find a green smoothie place in SF, but then when we get back, I will try it until at least the end of May. By then, if I am still doing this, I will buy the heavy duty blender.
My smoothie this morning, as you can see, is more red then green, but I added one whole beet, skin and all, and that is the red color. I also added protein greens, celery, half of an apple, a whole lemon, coconut oil for the healthy fat, and some avocado. Surprisingly, this was GREAT. Just sweet enough and not too bitter. I sucked this down pretty quick. I also added mint and parsley for this. I figure I might as well get as much healthy food in there that I can.
I also bought some coconut water today, tomorrow, I am going to add coconut water to this for extra potassium and magnesium.
If you have any good, healthy smoothie recipes like this, please send them to me at
Right now, I am really excited on both of my new “tries”. I AM committing to do this for an entire cycle, 30 days minimum, and then I will let you know what I think.
Ok, this has really slipped away from me. I had so much to post today, I am really excited about “trying” to run again and the smoothies. I wanted to share all of this. Let me know your thoughts on this.
But, now I have to go, have lots to get down in the next two and a half days! So, remember to leave me a comment below on whatever you feel like, and don’t forget:
and Root to Rise!
